Redfish & carp types are fairly easy to clean and get a knife through, while tarpon & big gar are not at all. The tigerfish, although I've never seen one in person, looks to have the heavy, tight scaled body similar to a tarpon or a large gar, where the scale pattern on a wolfish looks more like a lot of other sportfish scale patterns, lets say, like a redfish, or a carp. The wolfish could be more maneuverable, however, it is the inferior swimmer by quite a bit, and that difference means the tigerfish is stronger bodied. The more forked the tail, along with the tail size, are speed indicators. Two, they have a huge forked tail while the wolfish has a small, completely rounded tail, almost goby-like, indicating the tigerfish is the faster swimmer. One, they live in the heavy current areas of large river systems where wolfish live in calm backwaters, so tigerfish need to be stronger just to hold their place. The reason I say the tigerfish has the more powerful body is mainly due to 2 observations. I'd lean towards the tigerfish more often than not.Ĭan you provide evidence of "armored scales" or "stronger body"? The wolf fish seems marginally faster and more agile ![]() The tigerfish appears more heavily scaled and may have a durability advantage. This large-toothed, highly predatory fish grows to a length of 1.5-metre (4.9 ft) and a weight of 50 kilograms (110 lb).Īt parity, they can both hurt each other.the rounded fins of the Wolfish probably give it the maneuverability advantage, while the tigerfish lives in much more turbid waters, so it is the more powerful swimmer and likely has the more powerful body. Mainly found in the Congo River Basin, Lualaba River as well as Lake Upemba, and Lake Tanganyika. Hydrocynus goliath, also known as the goliath tigerfish, giant tigerfish or mbenga, is a very large African predatory freshwater fish. Attacks on larger vertrebrates including humans are unproven. It is mainly an ambush predator of fish but also feeds opportunistically on other animals that fall into the water such as terrestrial invertebrates. Often found in counter current zones of principal rivers and creeks. ![]() Across most of northern south America, Brazil, Columbia, Venezuela, Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname, the record for this species is 120 centimeters (four feet). Hoplias aimara, also known as Anjumara, Anjoemara and Wolf Fish, is a species of freshwater fish found in the rivers of South America.
